2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: What’s New, What’s Changing, and What Stays the Same

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a next-generation truck, and Chevrolet did not hold back. It brings two all-new V8 engines (a 5.7L and a 6.6L), a stronger TurboMax, a fully digital cabin with a 16.3-inch center screen on every trim, available hands-free Super Cruise towing, and a seven-trim lineup that includes three factory-lifted off-road models. Chevrolet says it will go on sale in late 2026 and be available to order later this year. Here is everything that changes, and everything that stays recognizably Silverado.

What Is New on the 2027 Silverado 1500

A Bolder, Wider-Looking Exterior

The front end is all new, with a stronger, more expressive grille, signature LED headlamps and taillamps, more pronounced wheel-opening moldings, and tougher rocker treatments. Lighting signatures and styling now differ more from trim to trim, so a Custom looks different from a High Country at a glance. Dual exhaust is standard on Custom and above, and a 3-foot center high-mounted brake lamp is integrated into the rear window. It is still unmistakably a Chevy truck, just more planted.

Two All-New V8 Engines

Chevrolet retired the 5.3L and 6.2L V8s and replaced them with next-generation sixth-generation small-block V8s. The new 5.7L makes 402 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque, and the new 6.6L makes 481 horsepower and 501 lb.-ft. (Chevrolet says the 6.6L is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class.)

A Stronger TurboMax, Now With a 10-Speed

The 2.7L TurboMax now makes 350 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque, up from 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. in the 2026 truck, and it moves from an 8-speed to a 10-speed automatic. Chevrolet says that is the most torque in its class for a standard engine.

A 10-Speed Automatic With Every Engine

Every 2027 Silverado, including the Duramax diesel and both new V8s, now comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

A Fully Digital Interior

Every Silverado gets a 16.3-inch center screen and a 12.2-inch driver information center, and Chevrolet says upper trims offer more than 60 inches of combined digital displays. The new interface is designed to be simpler and faster, with redesigned home screens and fewer taps to reach common settings. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and Google built-in brings the Gemini AI assistant for hands-free help with directions, climate settings, and questions about your truck. An 11.5-inch passenger screen is standard on the ZR2 and High Country, with HDMI access and Bluetooth headphone connection. A new available Multi-Flex center console folds flat into a workspace, and dynamic ambient lighting is available.

A Panoramic Sunroof, a Silverado First

A panoramic sunroof arrives on the Silverado for the first time. It is standard on the High Country and available on the ZR2, Trail Boss, and Silverado trims.

Super Cruise With Hands-Free Trailering

Super Cruise (Chevrolet’s hands-free driver assistance system, for use on compatible roads) is available with trailering, and it is included on the High Country and ZR2 along with three years of the OnStar One plan. Up to 11 available cameras provide 19 views to help with driving, parking, and hitching.

Three Factory-Lifted Off-Road Models

The Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, and ZR2 each ship with a 2-inch factory lift. The Trail Boss models add 34-inch tires, and the ZR2 steps up to 35-inch tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and the Duramax diesel as standard.

What Is Changing From Earlier Model Years

The Engine Lineup

Here is how the 2027 engines compare with 2026 (output figures; maximums vary by configuration):

2.7L TurboMax 350 hp and 455 lb.-ft. in 2027 310 hp and 430 lb.-ft. in 2026
3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel 305 hp and 495 lb.-ft. in 2027 unchanged
5.7L V8 402 hp and 428 lb.-ft. in 2027 replaces the 5.3L V8 (355 hp and 383 lb.-ft.)
 6.6L V8 481 hp and 501 lb.-ft. in 2027 replaces the 6.2L V8 (420 hp and 460 lb.-ft.)

Towing and Payload by Engine

Chevrolet lists these maximums for 2027, and the ranking surprises some people:

2.7L TurboMax up to 9,400 pounds towing up to 2,340 pounds payload
3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel up to 12,000 pounds towing up to 1,870 pounds payload
5.7L V8 up to 13,700 pounds towing up to 2,170 pounds payload
6.6L V8 up to 9,700 pounds towing up to 1,510 pounds payload

Every Silverado tows at least 7,200 pounds. The takeaway: the 5.7L is the towing pick (Chevrolet calls its 13,700 pounds best-in-class), while the 6.6L is the power pick. Ratings vary by cab, bed, drivetrain, and equipment, so ask us to match the truck to your trailer.

The Trim Lineup Is Reorganized

Chevrolet trimmed the lineup to seven models. The LT is renamed the Silverado trim (the Z71 Off-Road package is standard on every four-wheel-drive Silverado), the LT Trail Boss is now simply Trail Boss, and the RST and LTZ names no longer appear.

What Stays the Same

The Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel carries over with the same 305 horsepower and 495 lb.-ft. of torque (and Chevrolet still calls it the class-exclusive diesel in a light-duty pickup). The Multi-Flex tailgate remains available, and the truck still comes in Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab layouts with multiple bed lengths (overall length ranges from 212.1 to 242.5 inches, and width is 81.2 inches including mirrors). The Work Truck still starts the lineup as the budget-friendly workhorse, and the Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country names carry on. OnStar Basics remains standard for eight years, and every Silverado includes more than 15 standard safety and driver assistance features, such as Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking, and an HD Rear Vision Camera.

Which 2027 Silverado Engine Is Right for You?

Pick the 2.7L TurboMax for the best payload and a strong standard engine at the lowest price. Pick the 3.0L Duramax if you want a diesel’s torque for steady towing and long highway stretches. Pick the 5.7L V8 if maximum towing matters most. Pick the 6.6L V8 for the most horsepower. Tell us what you tow and haul, and we will match the engine to the job.

Should You Buy a 2026 Silverado or Wait for the 2027?

This one is not close to a carryover, so the choice is real. A 2026 Silverado is a proven truck with the 5.3L and 6.2L V8s, and leftover pickups often come with strong incentives (ask us what applies today). The 2027 brings new V8s, a stronger TurboMax, a fully digital cabin, available hands-free Super Cruise towing, and a new look, but it will not be on dealer lots until late 2026 at the earliest. Buy a 2026 if you need a truck now or want the best deal; wait for the 2027 if the new engines, screens, or Super Cruise towing are what you have been waiting for. We make it EASY!
